While receiving significant informal feedback from Catholic School Principals and Teachers, DRE's, CRE's, Catechists and members of educational commissions, the OEC has been reevaluating the F.O.R.E.M. program along with its goals, requirements, format and accessibility.  This process has been on-going and has involved the evaluation of similar programs in other dioceses and archdioceses around the United States, along with a variety of academic offerings.  It has also involved discussion with our provincial dioceses in Wisconsin, who are currently revisiting their own accreditation programs as well, and a formal process of drafting an updated WCC document which establishes new and defined Standards for Educators in Catholic Parishes and Schools.

As these discussions continue, we anticipate working in closer collaboration with our sister provincial dioceses in implementing a versatile program which not only actualized WCC standards and maximizes our use of shared opportunities and resources, but also parallels these other programs, facilitating smooth transfer of credit hours within in our state.  Realizing, however the urgent need for direction in this area, we will be offering catechetical courses aimed at providing Basic Certification beginning in August.  We anticipate these new courses, based on the Catechism of the Catholic church, will be a fundamental component of the revised program once it has fully emerged.  So mark you calendar for the Week of August 11-14; a week when we will be offering courses toward achieving Basic F.O.R.E.M. Certification here in the Diocese of Madison.  We will also be providing these classes regionally at parishes or schools upon request.  This is information form the Diocese.  If you are interested in the summer classes, let me know.  If you can find a few times during the fall to have the classes offered in our region please let me know.  It is so helpful to take these classes as a Catechist.

There may be other meetings scheduled during the year as catechists would like to meet.  There will be dinner meetings for leaders of retreats.
