IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
Dear Parent,
We all know that the awareness level in today's society has been heightened since we were children. If on child is spared the horror of abuse, it will be worth the effort that we are taking.
We are confident that we can be vigilant in our efforts to protect our children without giving them unnecessary fears.
As you probably know, our Diocese, along with many others, has adopted the "Protecting God's Children" Program. (For more information, please visit the "Links" section of our website and select Protect God's Children (www.virtus.org).
Mrs.Caryl Getchell and Mr.Jeff Allen are trained as facilitators in the Program and the paid employees, along with many volunteers have taken the 2-3 hour workshop. The Diocese has published a booklet entitled "A Safe Environment For All", which includes a code of conduct which must be signed and registered by anyone having contact with our children.
Background checks are conducted on everyone in our school and parish community who assist children. This check was done by the Chancellor of the Diocese and results are kept confidentially on a secured server.
Please register on-line if you have not had the "Protecting God's Children" training and plan on being involved this year in any program or activity that includes children under 18 years of age.
This one-time workshop ("Protecting God's Children") will enable you to spot the signs of abuse and help keep our children safe wherever they may be. Please visit www.virtus.org and register for any of the upcoming workshops. If you have trouble signing up or don't have access to the Internet, please call the school at (920) 261-7204.
The "workshops" are held throughout the Diocese. If you choose to attend one at an alternate parish, your paperwork must be submitted to St. Bernard's.
We need you to help us provide the love, nurturing and learning experiences your child wants and needs. It takes a village/faith community to raise a complete person. Let's do it in the safest possible environment.
Sincerely,
Father Thomas P. Marr, Pastor
Mr. Jeffrey Allen, School Principal
Mrs. Caryl Getchell, Director of Evangelization and Catechesis
